Sockers2 Defeat Ontario 11-6 To Open MASL2 Season
The San Diego Sockers2, the Sockers' developmental team, returned to the Major Arena Soccer League2 (M2) action after a two-year hiatus with an 11-6 romp over the Ontario Fury II at Pechanga Arena San Diego on Sunday afternoon. Ismael Rojotallied four goals and Andy Mendez added a pair to pace the Sockers2 to the season-opening win.
Seven different players scored in the victory for Sockers2 Head Coach Rene Ortiz. Starting goalkeeper Yari Aguilar earned the win after playing in the first half, while Edgar Alvarez manned the nets to complete the match.
San Diego, who never trailed in the contest, built leads of 3-1 in the first, 5-3 at the half, and 8-5 to conclude the third period.
The Sockers2 will face Ontario again next Sunday, 12:30 pm at home to continue their opening three-game homestand.
All Sockers2 home games will be played at Pechanga Arena San Diego prior to the Sockers MASL contest that evening. Matchbroadcasts and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
