Sockers Select Two Players In MASL Combine Draft
The San Diego Sockers had two picks in the 2022 MASL Pro Player Combine Draft and selected midfielder/forward Alberto Serafin (14th pick) and defender Mitchell Garcia (28th). The Tacoma Stars chose Alexander Gomez as the draft's first overall pick.
Serafin was a standout for his hometown high school in Modesto, CA, while Avondale, AZ native Garcia played college soccer at Grand Canyon University.
The Draft took place in the ballroom of the Statler Hotel in Dallas, Tex. on Sunday, October 22. Each of the League’s 14 teams had an opportunity to scout talent at the Pro Player Combine held in Mesquite, Tex. over the three days prior. Players came from as far as France and Australia and as close as Dallas to showcase their talents and hopefully land a roster position on one of the League’s teams.
The draft consisted of three rounds with teams having a pick in each. Teams also had the opportunity to trade or sell their picks.
“It feels great, it’s everything I could have asked for, I worked hard to get here,” said Gomez. “I’m grateful for the opportunity, all the coaches, the MASL, and the Commissioner, who gave me a lot of tips and motivated me throughout the whole process.”
