Sockers Ink Goalkeeper Antony Siaha to Indoor Deal
SAN DIEGO, CA—The San Diego Sockers today announced the signing of goalkeeper Antony Siaha for the 2021 Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) season. Terms of the deal were not released, as per club and league policy.
“Antony is an outdoor talent with great skills, and we think he has a path to success playing indoors,” said Sockers general manager Sean Bowers, “We believe Siaha will be a strong complement to Boris (Pardo) in net.”
Siaha, 22, signed his first professional contract in January when he inked a deal with San Diego’s 1904 FC, competing in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). The 6'6" goalkeeper is expected to be the tallest in MASL history. Siaha played college soccer starting in 2016 at Cal State Bakersfield, under head coach Richie Grant and goalkeeper coach Brandon Hearron. Born in Yaounde, Cameroon, Siaha grew up in Tucson, Arizona, attending Tucson High School. Siaha backstopped his club at Tucson High to a state title in his senior year (2015), allowing only six goals all season. His youth soccer career included training at Real Salt Lake Academy.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Sockers organization,” said Siaha on his signing,” Indoor is a new sport for me, and I can’t wait to see how this season goes. I’m thankful for the opportunity.”
The San Diego Sockers will compete as a road-only club in the MASL 2021 season, with the first two matches scheduled for January 29 (at Kansas City) and January 31 (at Dallas). The league is utilizing a pay-per-view platform via Facebook and Facebook Watch for all regular season and postseason contests. Find out more at the Major Arena Soccer League Facebook page.
